Michael Faraday (1791-1867) Lecturing in the Theatre at the Royal Institution, c.1856 (hand coloured lithograph) by Alexander Blaikley, (1816-1903). The lecture depicted took place on the 27th December 1855 and was one of Michael Faraday\u2019s Christmas Lectures of that year on the subject of The Distinctive Properties of the Common Metals. The painting of Professor Faraday lecturing was purchased by Mr. Gassiot for presentation to the Royal Society of Chemistry. Blaikely also produced a lithograph of his painting for inclusion in the London Illustrated News in 1856. The original version of this he further embellished with crayons\/chalk and gave to Faraday, and it can now be found in the Ri\u2019s collection.
